81 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Abū Khaythamah and Isḥāq ibn Ismāʿīl also narrated to us; they said: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, who said: I heard ʿUrwah say: ʿĀʾishah—may Allah be pleased with her—told me:
“A man sought permission to enter upon the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, ‘Allow him in, for what a wretched member of the clan he is—or what a wretched man of the clan!’ When the man entered, the Prophet ﷺ spoke to him gently. After he left we said, ‘You said what you did, and yet you spoke to him so mildly.’ He replied, ‘O ʿĀʾishah, the worst of people in station with Allah on the Day of Resurrection are those whom others avoid or abandon for fear of their harm.’”
