Ibn Jamil narrated to us; Ibn al-Mubarak informed us; Sufyan informed us; from Ibn Abi Najih; from Mujahid, on Allah’s saying, “Woe to every defamer, backbiter” (Q 104:1). He said: “Al-humazah is the one who assails people with taunts, while al-lumazah is the one who consumes their flesh—that is, who backbites them.”
