44 – ʿAbd Allah ibn Abi’l-Dunyā narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Abi Badr narrated to us; Yazīd ibn Hārūn informed us, from Hishām ibn Ḥassān, from Khālid al-Rabʿī, who said:
“I entered the mosque and sat with a group of people. They mentioned a certain man, so I forbade them and they stopped. The conversation, however, drifted on until they returned to speaking about him, and I joined them in some of what was said. That night I saw in a dream something black, human-shaped yet extraordinarily tall, carrying a shining white tray on which lay pork. He said, ‘Eat!’ I replied, ‘Am I to eat pork? By Allah, I will not.’ He seized me by the nape of the neck and barked, ‘Eat!’—a harsh command—then forced the meat into my mouth. I kept chewing but could not swallow, and I was afraid to spit it out; then I awoke. By Allah, I swear, for thirty days and thirty nights after that I tasted that very meat in my mouth whenever I ate any food.”
[Abu Jaʿfar said:] “Al-Daqīqī, Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Malik, narrated to us; Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us with this same chain and something similar in wording.”
ʿAbd Allah ibn Abi’l-Dunyā also said:
45 – “I heard Yaḥyā ibn Ayyūb relate about himself that he saw a similar thing done to him in a dream, and that he felt the taste of fat on his lips for several days. This was because he used to sit in the company of a man who habitually backbit people.”
