3 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Ahmad ibn al-Miqdam al-ʿIjli narrated to us; Umayyah ibn Khalid narrated to us; Ishaq ibn Yahya ibn Talhah ibn ʿUbayd Allah narrated to us. He said: Ibn Kaʿb ibn Malik told me, on the authority of his father, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) say, “Whoever seeks knowledge in order to rival the scholars, argue with the foolish, or attract people’s attention to himself, Allah will consign him to the Fire.”
