164 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abu al-Hasan al-Raqqi, ʿAli ibn ʿAbd Allah, narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Yusuf narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd ibn Jābir narrated to us; he said: my father told me, from al-Ḥasan —may Allah have mercy on him—who used to say: “Beware of backbiting! By Him in whose hand my soul rests, it consumes good deeds more quickly than fire consumes firewood.”
