159 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān al-ʿUqaylī narrated to us; Abū ʿAwn, known as Ṣāḥib al-Qirab (the waterskin vendor), narrated to us; from Mālik ibn Dīnār—may Allah have mercy on him—who said: “Jesus, son of Mary (peace be upon him), once passed with the disciples by the rotting carcass of a dog. The disciples exclaimed, ‘How foul is its odor!’ Jesus, son of Mary (peace be upon him), replied, ‘But how gleaming white are its teeth!’—thereby admonishing them and warning them against backbiting.”
