157 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Idrīs narrated to me; Abū al-Naḍr al-Dimashqī narrated to us; Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh narrated to us, from Abū Shaybah Yaḥyā ibn Yazīd al-Rahāwī, from Zayd ibn Abī Unaysah, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Rabāḥ. He was asked about the repentance due for slander, and he answered: “Go to the person you maligned and say, ‘I lied in what I told you; I wronged you and acted badly. If you wish, you may take your right, or if you prefer, you may forgive.’”
