154 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Muhammad ibn ʿImrān ibn Abī Laylā narrated to us; Bishr ibn ʿUmārah narrated to us; from Abū Rawq; from al-Ḍaḥḥāk; from Ibn ʿAbbās, may Allah be pleased with them both, concerning Allah’s words: “Woe to us! What is the matter with this Book that it leaves nothing—small or great—without counting it?” (18:49). He said: “The ‘minor’ sin is to smile and scoff at a believer, while the ‘major’ sin is to burst into loud laughter at him.”
