132 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Ibrāhīm Abū Isḥāq narrated to us; Zayd b. ʿAwf narrated to me, from Ḥammād b. Salama, from Ḥumayd:

A man was negotiating the purchase of a slave. The slave’s owner said to the prospective buyer, “I hereby absolve myself before you of any liability concerning talebearing (namīma).” The buyer replied, “Very well—you are absolved.” He then bought the slave.

Afterward the slave began telling his new master, “Your wife is being unchaste and is plotting to kill you.” Then he would go to the wife and say, “Your husband wants to marry another woman and to take a concubine. If you would like me to make him fond of you so that he neither marries over you nor takes a concubine, take this razor and, when he falls asleep, shave the hair at his throat.”

He also warned the husband, “She intends to kill you once you are asleep.” So the husband went, feigned sleep, and when she approached with the razor to shave some hair from his throat, he seized her hand and killed her. Her family then came, sought legal retribution against him, and killed him.
