126 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Harun ibn ʿAbd Allah narrated to me; Ibrahim ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi informed us, from Miskin Abū Fāṭimah, from a shaykh of Basra, from Abū al-Jawzāʾ, who said:
“I said to Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both), ‘Explain to me: who is the one to whom Allah gives the warning of woe?’ He recited, ‘Woe to every slandering backbiter’ (Q 104:1). Then he said, ‘It is the person who goes about spreading gossip, splitting brothers apart and inciting hostility among the people.’”
