106 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Yaʿqub ibn ʿUbayd narrated to me; Hisham ibn ʿAmmar narrated to us; Abu al-Muhabbar al-Himsi, from a shaykh of Basra, from Anas ibn Malik—may Allah be pleased with him—who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared, “If a man is maligned while you are in an assembly, then be the man’s defender and the people’s deterrent; otherwise, stand up and leave.” He then recited: “Would any one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would loathe it.” (Qur’an, 49:12).
