35 – Ishaq ibn Ismaʿil narrated to us; he said: Sufyan narrated to us, from Hisham ibn Hujayr, from Tawus, from Abu Hurayrah; and Abu al-Zinad also narrated from al-Aʿraj, from Abu Hurayrah—one of the two transmissions adding a detail to the other—that Solomon son of David (peace be upon them) said: “Tonight I shall visit seventy women, and each of them will bear a son who will fight in the path of Allah.” His companion said to him, “Say: if Allah wills.” Solomon forgot to say it, so he went round to the seventy women, yet none of them gave birth except one, and she produced only half a child. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Had he said, ‘If Allah wills,’ he would not have broken his oath and it would have secured for him what he sought.” ⦗88⦘
