24 – She also spoke of Hilāl ibn Qays of the Sahm clan, addressing her son Khālid:

Oh, would that I knew of Maqays and her people—
did even a single soul escape when the quarter was struck?
Or did the household spare not one of the tribe,
so that every last man now lies forever in the dust?
By your life, I shall never cease to weep for you there
as long as we live—while misfortune only grows.
He said: al-Faḍl ibn Ghānim further transmitted to us, from Salamah, from Ibn Isḥāq:
Each of them had been a whole world to his folk,
and each, had he remained among men, a father to all.
٢٤ - وَقَالَتْ فِي هِلَالِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ السَّهْمِيِّينَ تُخَاطِبُ ابْنَهَا خَالِدًا:

أَلَا لَيْتَ شِعْرِي عَنْ مَقِيسٍ وَأَهْلِهَا ... أَأَفْلَتَ مِنْهُمْ فِي الْمَحَلَّةِ وَاحِدُ
أَمِ الدَّارُ لَمْ تُخْطِئْ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ وَاحِدًا ... وَكُلُّهُمُ ثَاوٍ إِلَى التُّرَابِ خَالِدُ
لَعَمْرُكَ لَا أَنْفَكُّ أَبْكِيكُمْ بِهَا ... حَيَاتِيَ مَا عِشْنَا وَلَلشَّرُّ زَائِدُ
قَالَ: وَزَادَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ غَانِمٍ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ:
وَكُلُّهُمْ قَدْ كَانَ دُنْيَا لِقَوْمِهِ ... وَكُلُّهُمْ لَوْ عَاشَ فِي النَّاسِ وَالِدُ
