22 – Saʿīd b. Yahyā al-Umawī narrated to us, saying: ʿAlī b. al-Mughīra informed me, from Abū ʿUbayd Maʿmar b. al-Muthannā, who said:

The very first outbreak of aggression that ever occurred among Quraysh in Mecca was when the clan of al-Maqāyīs—the descendants of Qays from Banī Sahm—attacked one another. Allah therefore sent a mouse which dragged a burning ember on a wick into their tents, and they were consumed by the fire.

After that came the injustice and transgression of Banī al-Sabbāq b. ʿAbd al-Dār b. Quṣayy, and Allah sent utter destruction upon them. Subayʿah daughter of Lāḥib b. Dabnaba b. Khuzaimah b. ʿAwf b. Naṣr b. Muʿāwiyah then said:
