20 – Muḥammad ibn ʿAbbād ibn Mūsā narrated to us; my uncle, Khalīfah ibn Mūsā, narrated to me, from Sharqiyy ibn Qiṭāmī, who said:
ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “I have known a household of Quraysh whose lineage was above reproach, yet their rashness and oppression of their own people continued until qualities they never possessed were imputed to them; the people shunned them, regarded them with contempt—even though they had once been sound.
And I have known another household who used to be faulted for their ancestry, but their constant forbearance toward their people and their eagerness for what pleased them lasted until visitors came to them at daybreak; people sought them out, and they came to be acknowledged as sound.”
