Dhamm al-BaghyIbn Abi al-Dunya

18 – ʿAbbās ibn Hishām narrated to me; he said: Hishām ibn Muḥammad narrated to me; he said: Abū Muḥammad al-Mawhibī narrated to us, from a shaykh of the Meccans belonging to Banū Jumāḥ, from his elders, who said:
“The first people in Mecca from Quraysh to be destroyed by their own tyranny were the Banū al-Sabbāq of the line of ʿAbd al-Dār. When their wrongdoing dragged on, they heard a voice in the depth of night coming from Mount Abū Qubays proclaiming:

[Basīṭ metre]
Tyrannous pride has beguiled the sons of al-Sabbāq;
Before long no mark of them, no trace, will remain.
Behold Iyād—a people once famed for noble deeds—
They were wiped out when they oppressed, wronging those who followed.

They lingered a single year and then perished; not an eye or a trace of them was left, save one man in Syria who left descendants.”
