42 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; ʿAli ibn Muslim transmitted to us; ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn ʿAbd al-Wārith related to us, quoting his father, who said: Ishāq ibn Suwayd recited to me, saying, “There was a man here who would frequently invoke Allah in supplication. He said—I said:
[Metre: al-Baḥr al-Kāmil]
I call upon the One who formed the layered heavens, the One who fashioned me ⦗54⦘;
When I implore Him, my hands remain still, yet He never forgets me.
Only with a heart full of certainty—for the One I call upon is watching me;
He sees and hears whatever I say; so if I place my trust in Him, He is enough for me.”
