37 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abū Yaʿqūb related to us; al-ʿAbbās ibn al-Walīd narrated to us, from his father, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Hawshab, who said: I heard Bilāl ibn Saʿd say:

“O servants of the All-Merciful! What Allah has entrusted to you, you neglect, while what He has guaranteed for you, you chase after. This is not how Allah depicts His servants who are certain in faith. Have you become people of intellect when pursuing the worldly life, yet simpletons regarding the very purpose for which you were created? Just as you hope for Allah’s mercy because of the obedience you perform, so too should you fear Allah’s punishment for the sins you commit.”
