Muhammad Abu ʿUmar’s method for determining al-Albani’s final ruling:
Abu Taqiyy al-Din al-Jazaʾiri asked:
“My dear brother, if you would kindly answer the following question:
The places where the Shaykh—may Allah have mercy on him—explicitly stated that he retracted from one judgment to another are clear and undisputed.
But in those instances where the Shaykh did not expressly mention a retraction from … to …, how did you determine that this position is the correct one and not the other?”
Muhammad Abu ʿUmar replied:
“It was simply a personal effort on my part, and I ask Allah’s forgiveness for every mistake I may have attributed to the Shaykh ﵀. There are, however, many hadiths whose ruling can be ascertained by looking at the year in which a particular book of his was composed and classified among his beneficial works—such as Sahih and Daʿif al-Mawarid, Sahih al-Targhib wa-al-Tarhib (Maʿarif edition), and the like.
Allah knows best.”}
