289 – “Whoever says [before he rises and before unfolding his legs after the Maghrib and Fajr prayers]: La ilaha illa Allah, wahdahu la sharika lah, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd, yuhyi wa yumit… (There is no deity but Allah alone, without partner; to Him belongs the dominion and to Him belongs all praise; He gives life and causes death…)—no one will surpass him except a man who exceeds him by saying something even better than what he said.”
Reported by Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi on the authority of ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Ghanm (the original printing reads: ibn Ghunaym).
In another narration from Abu Dharr: “Whoever says, at the close of the Fajr prayer while still sitting with his legs folded and before speaking: La ilaha illa Allah, wahdahu… no sin will reach him that day except associating partners with Allah.”
