88 – ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd related to us; he said: Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Ḥuṣayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd, from ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr, who said: Jesus son of Mary, peace be upon him, was mentioned, and he said: “He used to eat from the trees, wear a coarse hair-cloth, consume whatever he found and never ask about what he lacked. He had no child whose death would grieve him, and no house to mourn over; he spent the night wherever nightfall happened to overtake him.”
