87 – Muḥammad ibn Yazīd al-Ādamī related to us; he said: Muḥammad ibn Kathīr narrated to us, from Sahl ibn Shuʿayb, from ʿAbd al-Aʿlā, from ʿAwf, who said: I heard ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, may Allah honour his face, say: “Glad tidings to those who shun this world and yearn for the Hereafter. They are a people who have spread Allah’s earth as their carpet, taken its dust for a bed and its water for perfume; who wear bare sufficiency as an inner garment and wrap themselves in supplication as an outer cloak; who have advanced the world a loan, following the path of the Messiah—Jesus, peace be upon him.”
