516 – A narrator who had heard Ibn Abi al-Hawari told me: He said, “I asked Abu Safwan al-Ruʿayni in Mecca—and Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah used to come to him, greet him, and stand before him—‘What is the worldly life that Allah condemns in the Quran, the life a rational person ought to shun?’ He answered, ‘Everything you obtain from this world desiring only the world is blameworthy, whereas whatever you gain within it for the sake of the Hereafter is not counted among it.’”
