482 – Abu Ishaq al-Azdi narrated to me; he said: Zayd ibn ʿAwf related to us; he said: an elder known as al-Fadl ibn Dawud narrated to us, from ʿImran—an old man who used to live in Egypt—who said:
Allah, exalted be He, revealed to David, peace be upon him: “Do not set between Me and yourself a scholar whose heart has become attached to love of the world. The lightest punishment I inflict upon them is that I strip from their hearts the love of communing with Me.”
