Al-ZuhdIbn Abi al-Dunya

469 – Salamah narrated to me, transmitting from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Zayd ibn Aslam, who said:

“The loser is the one who cultivates his worldly life by wrecking his Hereafter. A loser likewise is he who secures his livelihood at the expense of his religion. And the person most thoroughly short-changed is the one who settles for the world over the Hereafter.”

He then recited—for Allah said about a people—“Indeed, those who do not look forward to meeting Us, who are satisfied with the life of this world and feel at ease therein …” (Yūnus 10:7).
