45 – Muhammad ibn al-Harith, the Qur’an-reciter, narrated to me; he said: Siyyar narrated to us; he said: Jaʿfar narrated to us; he said: Abu ‘Imran al-Jawni narrated to us; he said:
Solomon son of David, peace be upon him, once passed by in his royal procession. Birds cast their shade above him, while the jinn and human beings marched to his right and to his left. He came upon a devout worshipper from the Children of Israel who exclaimed, “By Allah, O son of David, Allah has granted you a mighty dominion!” Solomon overheard the remark and said, “One single tasbīḥ—an utterance of ‘Subḥān Allah’—recorded in a believer’s scroll is better than all that has been given to the son of David. What has been granted to the son of David will pass away, whereas the tasbīḥ endures.”
