44 – Suraij narrated to me; he said: al-Walīd ibn Muslim narrated to us, from al-Awzāʿī, who said: I heard Bilāl ibn Saʿd say, “By Allah, it is sin enough that Allah urges us to renounce this world while we still crave it: your so-called ascetic covets it, your most diligent worshipper falls short, and your scholar remains ignorant.”
