Al-ZuhdIbn Abi al-Dunya

438 – Muhammad ibn al-Husayn also informed me; he said: I heard Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ṭāʾī relate, through some of the elder Anṣār, from Abū ʿAdī al-ʿAbalī, who said: Kaʿb ibn Mālik said in one of his poems (al-Baḥr al-Basīṭ):

If a man come through unscathed by sword or by senility,
night and day will nonetheless wear out the fullness of his life.
