427 – Al-Mufaddal ibn Ghassan al-Ghalabi related to me; he said: Rawh ibn Zibriqan narrated, saying that Abu al-Dardaʾ said:
“There is no one whose reason does not fall short of matching his own forbearance and knowledge. The proof is that whenever the world brings him an increase in wealth, he stays overjoyed and delighted, while night and day are tirelessly eroding his lifespan—and that does not grieve him in the least. He has indeed gone astray. Of what use is wealth that keeps increasing while his life keeps diminishing?”
