419 – ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿIsa al-Tufawi narrated to us; he said: ʿUbayd Allah ibn Shumayt ibn ʿAjlan told me; he said: I heard my father say:
“The believer says to himself, ‘Life is but three days: yesterday has passed with all that was in it; tomorrow is a hope you may never attain; and as for today—if you should live to see tomorrow—know that tomorrow will arrive with the provision allotted to it. Yet between you and tomorrow lies a day and a night during which many souls are taken, and you could well be among them. Let each day’s own worry suffice it.’”
