Al-ZuhdIbn Abi al-Dunya

410 – ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Zabbān al-Ṭāʾī narrated to me, ⦗183⦘ saying: al-Muḥāribī related to us from Badr ibn ʿUthmān, from al-Ḥuwairith ibn Naṣr al-ʿĀmirī, from Shahr ibn Ḥawshab, who said:

“Not a single day of this world goes by without declaring, as it draws to a close: ‘People, I am the day that came to you fresh and new, and now my span has expired. No doer of good can add anything further to his goodness, and no wrongdoer can now seek amends for the wrong he committed during me. Praise be to Allah, who has not made me a barren day.’ Then the day departs.”

Badr added: “I have also heard that the night says the same.”
