403 – Ibn Khidāsh ibn ʿAjlān and Khalaf ibn Hishām related to me; they said: Abū ʿAwānah narrated to us, from Qatādah, from Khulayḍ ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-ʿAṣarī, from Abū al-Dardāʾ—Khalaf added: “Abū ʿAwānah said: ‘Some of our companions trace it back to the Prophet, but I myself did not preserve it as such’—who said:
“Never does the sun rise without two angels at its flanks proclaiming—audible to everyone on the face of the earth except the two weighty beings (humankind and jinn):
‘O people, come to your Lord! What is little yet sufficient is better than what is abundant yet distracting.’
Likewise, never does the sun set without two angels at its flanks proclaiming—audible to everyone on the face of the earth except the two weighty beings:
‘O Allah, hasten recompense for the one who spends, and hasten ruin for the one who withholds.’” ⦗181⦘
Azhār ibn Marwān al-Raqāshī also narrated to me; he said: ʿAbd al-Aʿlā ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā narrated to us, from Saʿīd ibn Abī ʿArūbah, from Qatādah, from Khulayḍ al-ʿAṣarī, from Abū al-Dardāʾ, from the Prophet —peace and blessings be upon him— with the same wording.
