401 – Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to me, from ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad al-Qurashī, from Maslamah ibn Muḥārib, who said: ʿĀmir ibn ʿAbd Qays declared:

“This world is the mother that gives birth to death; it unravels what has been firmly tied; it snatches back every favour it once bestowed. Everyone who dwells in it is swept along by what he cannot foresee, and every soul settled in it remains discontent with it. All of this stands as clear testimony that it is no abode of permanence.”
