397 – Muhammad ibn al-ʿAbbas related to me, saying: Muhammad ibn ʿUmar ibn al-Kumayt al-Kilabi narrated to us, saying: Ishaq al-Muqriʾ narrated to us, saying:
Ibn al-Hanafiyyah used to say, “I shall depict for you a brother who, in my eyes, was the greatest of people. What made him so great to me was the insignificance that the present world held in his own sight. He had broken free from the tyranny of his stomach: he never yearned for what he could not find, nor did he go to excess when it was within his reach. And he had likewise broken free from the tyranny of ignorance, never undertaking any matter until clear evidence had become manifest.”
