379 – Abu Saʿīd al-Madani related to us, from Ibrāhīm ibn Ḥamzah. Muḥammad ibn Faḍālah the grammarian told me, saying: al-Zubayr ibn ʿAbbād ibn Ḥamzah ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr narrated to me that ʿĀmir ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr once saw a woman with dishevelled hair wandering among the clustered graves, reciting—in the Sariʿ metre:
“The finery of this life has declared its farewell—
its people will soon depart, perish, and be no more.”
He added: People interpreted the first thing ʿĀmir beheld in that vision as referring to the world itself.
