374 – Salamah ibn Shabib related to me, saying: Sahl ibn ʿĀṣim narrated to us, from Salm ibn Maymūn al-Khawwāṣ, who said: I heard ʿUthmān ibn ⦗171⦘ Zāʾidah say, “Kurz al-Jurjānī was known for his tireless devotion in worship. When someone remarked about the intensity of his efforts, he asked, ‘According to what you have learned, how long has this world existed?’ They replied, ‘Seven thousand years.’ He then said, ‘And what do you know about the span of the Day of Resurrection?’ They answered, ‘Fifty thousand years.’ He concluded, ‘Can any of you really not devote yourselves for seven days and thereby gain safety on that Day?’”
