373 – Muhammad ibn ʿAli ibn al-Hasan ibn Shaqiq related to us, saying: Ibrahim ibn al-Ashʿath narrated to us, from Fudayl ibn ʿIyad, who said: “I have been told that one of the devoted worshippers once said, ‘This world lasts seven thousand years; I will therefore worship Allah Most High with such dedication that, perhaps, I may be spared from a Day whose span is fifty thousand years.’ It seems he did not live even a single day after uttering those words, yet Allah Most High granted him the full reward because of his intention.”
