36 – Abu Ishaq al-Riyahi narrated to me; he said: Jaʿfar b. Sulayman narrated to us, saying: I heard Malik b. Dinar relate from al-Hasan, who said: “Four traits signal wretchedness: a hard heart, un-weeping eyes, interminable hopes, and avidness for the life of this world.”
٣٦ - حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الرِّيَاحِيُّ، قَالَ: ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مَالِكَ بْنَ دِينَارٍ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَ: " أَرْبَعٌ مِنْ أَعْلَامِ الشَّقَاءِ: قَسْوَةُ الْقَلْبِ، وَجُمُودُ الْعَيْنِ، وَطُولُ الْأَمَلِ، وَالْحِرْصُ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا "
