342 – Yahya ibn Sulayman al-Muharibi narrated to us; he said: Misʿar ibn Kidam narrated to us; he said: ʿAwn ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUtbah told me: They would counsel one another with three concise maxims, writing them in their letters to each other: “Whoever acts for the sake of Allah Most High, Allah will spare him the need of people. Whoever works for his Hereafter, Allah will suffice him in his worldly life. And whoever sets his inner state right, Allah Most High will set his outward state right.”
