338 – Shujāʿ ibn al-Ashras told us; he said: Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh narrated to us, from Muṭʿim ibn al-Miqdām al-Ṣanʿānī and others, from Muḥammad ibn Wāsiʿ, who said:
Salman wrote to Abū al-Dardāʾ:
“My brother, beware of accumulating from this world more than you can adequately thank Allah for. I heard the Messenger of Allah — peace and blessings be upon him — say:
‘The servant who possessed worldly wealth and obeyed Allah with respect to it will be brought forth, his wealth placed in front of him. Whenever the Bridge (al-ṣirāṭ) sways beneath him, his wealth will say, “Go on; you have discharged Allah’s due in me.”
Then the owner of wealth ⦗157⦘ who did not obey Allah concerning it will be brought forth, his wealth slung upon his shoulders. Whenever the Bridge tilts beneath him, his wealth will cry, “Woe to you! Why did you not pay Allah’s right in me?” He will remain in that state until he calls out for ruin and destruction.’”
