337 – Zayd ibn Ismaʿil ibn Sayyār told me; he said: Muʿāwiyah ibn ʿAmr narrated to us; he said: Muḥammad ibn Bishr al-ʿAbdī narrated to us; Muslim al-Aʿwar narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Abī Jaʿfar al-Farrāʾ told me that al-Ḥasan said:

“Whoever loves this world and is delighted by it will find that fear of the Hereafter leaves his heart. And whoever increases in knowledge yet, at the same time, becomes more eager for worldly gain will draw no closer to Allah; rather, he will only grow more distant from Him—and only earn more of His displeasure.”
