33 – Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. Shaqīq related to us, saying: Maḥmūd b. al-ʿAbbās narrated to me; he said: al-Ḥasan b. Rushayd informed me, from Wuhaib al-Makkī, who said: It has reached me that Jesus, peace be upon him, said before he was taken up:

“O disciples, I have already cast the world down for your sake; do not set it back on its feet after me. There is no good in a dwelling where Allah is disobeyed, and there is no good in a domain whose Hereafter ⦗35⦘ can be attained only by forsaking it. So cross this world and do not busy yourselves with building it up. And know that the root of every sin is love of the world, and many a desire has left its people with a lasting sorrow.”
