326 – Muhammad b. ʿAbd Allah al-Madini narrated to us; he said: Ismaʿil b. ʿAyyash al-Himsi reported to us; he said: Abu Rashid al-Tanukhi related to me, from Yazid b. Maysarah, who said:
“Our elders used to call the present world ‘the sow.’ Had they found a name even worse, they would have used it. Whenever some worldly advantage came toward one of them, he would say, ‘Away, away, you sow! We have no need of you; we know our Lord.’”
٣٢٦ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمَدِينِيُّ، قَالَ: ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو رَاشِدٍ التَّنُوخِيُّ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ، قَالَ: " كَانَ أَشْيَاخُنَا يُسَمُّونَ الدُّنْيَا خِنْزِيرَةً، وَلَوْ وَجَدُوا لَهَا اسْمًا شَرًّا مِنْهُ سَمُّوهَا بِهِ، وَكَانُوا إِذَا أَقْبَلَتْ إِلَى أَحَدِهِمْ دُنْيَا قَالُوا: إِلَيْكِ إِلَيْكِ يَا خِنْزِيرَةُ، لَا حَاجَةَ لَنَا بِكِ، إِنَّا نَعْرِفُ إِلَهَنَا "
