318 – Abū Ḥafṣ al-Ḍabbī—one manuscript names him Muḥammad ibn ʿImrān al-Ḍabbī—narrated to us; he said: Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd Allāh related to me, from Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah, who said:
“If you will not abandon this world out of yearning for the Hereafter, then forsake it ⦗150⦘ out of self-respect, lest it turn into a contest in which most of those who come out on top are not even from among you.”
He was alluding to two Abyssinian men who had become commanders in Medina.
