306 – Muhammad ibn ʿAli ibn al-Hasan ibn Shaqīq narrated to me; he said, “Abu Ishaq ibn al-Ashʿath related to us; he said, ‘al-Fuḍayl ibn ʿIyād reported from Muhammad ibn Sūqah, who said:
“Two matters alone would suffice to make us worthy of punishment from Allah:
- When one of us is granted some increase of worldly goods, he rejoices with a joy that Allah has never seen him show for any increase in his religion.
- And when something of this world is taken from him, he grieves with a sorrow that Allah has never seen him show for any loss in his religion.”’
