294 – Hārūn ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrated to me. He said: Muḥammad ibn Yazīd ibn Khunays narrated to me. He said: Wuhaib remarked:
“If only our scholars—may Allah pardon us and them—had been sincerely faithful to Allah with regard to His servants. Had they simply said, ‘O servants of Allah, listen to what we convey to you from your Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and from your righteous forebears about their renunciation of the world. Put it into practice and pay no attention to these corrupt deeds of ours,’ they would indeed have shown true sincerity to Allah concerning His servants. Instead, they insist on dragging Allah’s servants into their own trials and into the very condition in which they themselves are mired.”
