288 – Abu Zayd al-Numayri related to me; he said: Abu Yahya al-Zuhri narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allah b. ʿAbd al-ʿAziz al-ʿUmari said on his death-bed:

“By my Lord’s grace I can state that I have never awoken owning anything of people’s property except seven dirhams earned from tree-bark I had twisted with my own hands. And by my Lord’s grace I can also state that if the whole world were to lie beneath my very feet, nothing would prevent me from taking it save the necessity of shifting my feet from it—⦗140⦘ and I would not shift them.”
