237 – Abu Kurayb narrated to us; he said: Al-Muharibi narrated to us, from ⦗117⦘ Bakr ibn Khunays, from Shuʿayb ibn Sulayman—or someone else—who said:
“Dhu al-Qarnayn met an angel and said, ‘Teach me something that will increase me in faith and certainty.’ The angel replied, ‘You would not be able to bear it.’ He answered, ‘Perhaps Allah the Exalted will enable me.’ The angel then said:
‘Do not distress yourself about tomorrow, but work today for tomorrow. If Allah grants you authority or wealth in this world, do not exult in it; and if He withholds it from you, do not grieve over it. Think well of Allah. Place your hand upon your heart: whatever you would like to be done for yourself, do it for your brother. Do not become angry, for Satan has the greatest power over the son of Adam when he is angry. Repel anger by swallowing it, and calm it with deliberate composure. Beware of haste, for when you hurry you lose your share. Be gentle and easygoing with both those near and those far, and do not be a stubborn tyrant.’”
