234 – ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Salih narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allah ibn Idris narrated to us, from Husayn ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman, who said: Ibrahim al-Taymi remarked:

“Those who preceded you found the world coming toward them, yet they ran away from it—despite the advantage of having arrived first. You, on the other hand, run after the world even as it turns its back on you, and you embrace whatever innovations your time produces. So measure your conduct against theirs.”
