229 – Saʿīd ibn Sulaymān related to us, from Sulaymān ibn al-Mughīrah, from Thābit, who said:

When Allah commissioned the Prophet ﷺ, Iblīs said to his demons, “A momentous event has occurred; go and find out what it is.” They set off and then returned saying, “We do not know.” Iblīs replied, “I will bring you the news myself.” He went and discovered: “Muḥammad ﷺ has been sent.”

He then began sending his devils to the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ. They would come back with their tablets, yet there was nothing written on them. He said, “What is the matter with you? Can you not take anything from them?” They answered, “Never have we accompanied people like these. We do take something from them, but once they stand for prayer it is erased.”

Iblīs said, “Leave them for a while. Perhaps the life of this world will be opened up for them; then you will get what you want from them.”
